One of my favourite parts of being a dentist is getting to know people.
Before we look at any scans or start talking about treatment, I want to understand what you’re hoping to get back. For some people it’s being able to enjoy a meal without thinking about a missing tooth. For others it’s smiling in family photos again. Sometimes it’s just not wanting to think about that gap every time they catch sight of themselves in the mirror.
Once I understand that, we can work out the best way of getting there together.
Sometimes that journey involves a dental implant.
I realise implants can feel like a big step. They’re also surrounded by quite a few myths. I still meet people who think they’re a new treatment or that they’re only suitable for certain people.
The reality is very different.
Dental implants have been used successfully for many years. What has changed is the technology we now have to plan treatment. Today, we can see so much more before we even begin.
At Bicton Place Dental, I often use a 3D CBCT scanner to look at your jawbone and the surrounding structures in incredible detail. It means I can plan your treatment carefully before placing an implant, rather than making decisions as I go along.
That planning is one of the reasons implant treatment has become so predictable.
A few weeks ago, our whole team spent some time together talking about the care we provide and the treatments we really believe in.
Someone asked us a simple question.
“If you ever needed to replace a tooth, would you have a dental implant?”
Every hand in the room went up.
I wasn’t surprised.
We all see the end result.
We see people eating normally again, smiling without thinking about it and getting on with life without worrying about a missing tooth.
That’s why we’d choose one ourselves.
Of course, an implant isn’t the right answer for everyone.
Sometimes I’ll recommend a different option because I think it will suit you better. If that’s the case, I’ll explain why. I’d much rather help you make the right decision than convince you to have treatment you don’t need.
We’ll also have an honest conversation about fees.
An implant is an investment and it’s important you understand exactly what’s involved. For many people, it’s one of those things they’ve thought about for years before coming to see me.
If that’s you, why not come in and have a chat?
Our implant consultations are free because I don’t think anyone should feel under pressure when they’re exploring their options. We’ll talk about what you’d like to achieve, I’ll answer your questions, and if an implant is right for you we’ll put together a plan. If it isn’t, we’ll look at the alternatives.
Either way, you’ll leave knowing a little more than when you arrived, and that’s never a bad thing.

Bicton Place Dental
I would like to express my extreme gratitude to this lovely, happy dental practice, it's the most welcoming helpful practice, always putting you at ease and very accommodating. I would like to add special praise to dentist, Oskar, he's brilliant,...
I have been coming here for 15 years and have always found the practice reliable and the dentists excellent.
Efficient explanation of work to be done, and the dentist inspired confidence in myself, a nervous patient.
The time taken to make me feel comfortable makes all the difference, and I would highly recommend this practice to anyone.
Joined this practice as I lost my place on NHS dentist. All the staff are lovely. Oskar is brilliant. I had a root filling and fell asleep whilst he was doing it!
You cannot do better than this practice. It puts you at ease from the moment you walk in with its very pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.
Putting you at the heart of our clinic.
